Background Check (If Elected): Required by NJ DOE.

The Role of the Board of Education
Setting Student Learning Goals: Help decide what the school district wants students to achieve.
Creating School Rules: Develop and approve the policies that guide how the schools operate.
Managing the Budget: Oversee school finances to ensure money is spent wisely for students and staff.
Hiring and Evaluating the Superintendent: Select and assess the leader of the school district.
Reviewing Curriculum: Look at what students learn to meet state standards and their needs.
Engaging with the Community: Listen to public thoughts and concerns about the schools.
Planning for the Future: Help determine the long-term needs of the school district.
Overseeing School Facilities: Ensure school buildings and grounds are safe and supportive.

Duties as Board Member
Attending regular board meetings. In Madison, regular meetings are usually in the evening on the second Tuesday of the month.
Attending committee meetings.
Participating in working sessions, which in Madison are usually held in the evening on the second Thursday of the month.
Preparing for meetings by reviewing agendas and other materials.
Taking part in training to learn more about being an effective board member.
Communicating with parents, community members, and school staff.
